GARNETTE L. BUTLER
GARNETTE L. BUTLER, 75, of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. Born March 26, 1941 in Springfield, Ohio, she was the only child of the late Harold and June Dillon. Her formative years were spent in Springfield. She graduated from Springfield South High School, and then went on to earn a degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On June 19, 1959 she married her best friend, Jay Lee Butler. They made their first home in Springfield, and in 1979 relocated with International Harvester to Fort Wayne. In 1994, they moved to Chicago until the couple retired and returned to Fort Wayne in 1998. Garnette begin her career in the medical field as a surgical technician in Springfield. Later she became a Practice Manager for doctor's offices in Springfield and Fort Wayne. The move to Chicago is where she was employed as a Regional Manager of a physicians billing service. She was a member of Emmanuel Community Church, Fort Wayne, was a stained glass artisan and teacher, a renowned craftster, and fondly was considered a founding member of the Mocha Lounge Lady's Christian Chat Club. She is survived by her husband, Jay; her children, Chris (Angie) Butler of Fort Wayne, Rene (Chad) Cornwell, of Buchanan, Mich., Melissa (Brian) Doepke of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren, Danielle, Allison, Ashley, Clara, Benjamin, and Bremen. Memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at Emmanuel Community Church, 12222 W Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne (IN 46814). The family will be available to greet guests at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the service.
