Gardner R. Field Competitive sports enthusiast TEWKSBURY -- Gardner R. Field, of Tewksbury, died October 14, 2016, at Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus, after a lengthy illness, aged 73 years. Born in Lowell, August 17, 1943, a son of the late Attorney Eldred L. Field and Valerie R. (Simmers) Field. He received his early education in the Lowell and Tewksbury school systems, and graduated from Middlesex School in Concord with the Class of 1961, where he excelled in football and tennis. He furthered his education at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania, where he also excelled in tennis, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After college, Gardner began a long, successful career in Sales and Advertising, first at Grolier Publishing, and later at his own advertising company, until illness forced his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Vesper Country Club, where he enjoyed golf. In addition to several holes in one, he is best remembered for five consecutive birdies, starting with the first hole, in a Member-Member tournament. He also participated in nineteen City Tournaments as a member of the Vesper Team. Gardner was an all-around good athlete who loved sports and was known for his fierce competitive nature. He is survived by a brother, Attorney Marshall L. Field, a nephew, E. Lincoln Field II, and a niece, Hilary W. Munroe and her husband Daniel, all of Tewksbury, two grandnephews, Derek F. Munroe and Dylan S. Munroe, a grandniece, Jamie T. Munroe, and his good friends, Richard Trull and Jody Rochez. FIELD -- In Lowell, October 14, 2016. Gardner R. Field, of Tewksbury, aged 73 years.
