In memory of
Gale D. Van Krey
Gale Van Krey (née Rohm) passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 15, 2016. Gale will be remembered as a spirited woman who identified strongly as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love of family grew into a penchant for genealogy, in particular for the stories that linked the lives of relatives she never knew with those who surrounded her from the time of childhood. Her strong work ethic allowed her to reinvent herself over a lifetime of varied work experience. When she developed an interest in something, she pursued it with passion; her fascination with Italy, England, and Japan found outlets in what she read and watched. A love of pop culture kept her ever youthful and connected to the world of entertainment and celebrity, though her tender nature made her sensitive to reading stories about those less fortunate than herself. She was particularly devoted to things of beauty and the stories behind them, from the natural wonder of gardening and landscapes to the physical grace of ice skating and the sonic artistry of music (from opera to Elvis). Sharp-witted and inquisitive, she was eager to learn the life story of anyone she met, quick to shed a tear but always appreciative of a good laugh. She will be remembered most for her big-hearted generosity towards all who knew her. Gale was the first-born daughter (September 15, 1934) of Ralph Robert and Grace (Metcher) Rohm, and she married Peter Anthony Van Krey on June 1, 1957. She is survived by her children Kathleen (Bruce) Sprangers, Michael (Jennifer) Van Krey, and James Van Krey; her grandchildren Shelly (Lucas) Vold, Thomas, Bradley, and Grace Sprangers, Kieran and Zoe Van Krey; her great-grandchildren Theodore and Amelia Vold; and her brother Robert (Pat) Rohm. Gale was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents, her sister Janice Rohm, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Anne and Frank Diehn, Harry and Jean Van Krey, John Van Krey, Tony Van Krey, and Joe and Mary Van Krey. She is further survived by sisters-in-law Shirley (John) Van Krey, Joan (Tony) Van Krey and Judy (Joe) Van Krey and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of Gale's life will occur at her Kimberly home on Saturday November 12, 2016 from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, condolences can be sent to her Kimberly home. ... Show More
