Friedrich J. (Fritz) Grasberger
Grasberger, Friedrich J. (Fritz) Pittsford: Died on April 9, 2017 at the age of 83 from metastasized melanoma. Fritz lived a life of honesty, integrity and fairness. He was devoted to his family and friends, and touched the hearts and lives of countless others. After immigrating from Augsburg, Germany to become a Fulbright scholar at the University of Rochester, he married Marty, the love of his life. To support his family while working on his Doctorate in Economics, Fritz took a temporary job at the Center for Governmental Research, from which he retired 34 years later, as its President. An expert in taxation and public policy, he published many studies for the city of Rochester, Monroe County and other municipalities across the country, recommending cost saving methods to simplify governmental procedures and to lower the tax burden on citizens. For 40 years he volunteered on the St. Ann's and Perinton Assessment Review Boards. He enjoyed good wine and conversation, debating, marathon running, and the Sunday NYTimes crossword, but most cherished his time with family and dear friends. Fritz is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marty; his much loved daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Grasberger (Jay Hull), Heidi Scharfman, Karen Silverman and Rachel Stark; his adored grandchildren, Samantha Silverman, Sara Hull, Alexander Hull, Allison Silverman, Rachel Silverman, Olivia Scharfman and Jake Stark; his brother Roland (Helga) and sisters, Helga Pastore and Paula Reece, and many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his sister, Erica Mancini. There will be no services or funeral per his wishes and his body has been donated to the U of R Medical Center also at his request. Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of his life this summer at a date to be announced.
