Friedlinde G. Sacksen April 18, 1931 - October 13, 2016 Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother LUNENBURG -- Friedlinde (Guder) Sacksen entered into eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Peter K. Sacksen, her infant daughter Friedericke, her sister, Ingeborg (Guder) Schrock and her parents, Johannes and Elfriede (Bensieck) Guder. She leaves behind, one son, Joachim G. Sacksen and his wife Jennifer of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Petra A. Sacksen of Norwood, MA and Ingeborg A. Sacksen and her husband Peter Moran of Bellingham, WA; five grandchildren, J. Benjamin Sacksen and his wife Cecilia of Great Mills, MD, P. Samuel Sacksen and his wife Alexandra of West Grove, PA, Rachael Noyalis and her husband Christopher of Tucson, AZ, Sophia Grados and her husband Jordan of Latrobe, PA, and Analiese Sacksen of Bellingham, WA. Friedlinde was born in Drove, Germany and was educated in Oldenburg, Germany as a pediatric nurse. She married Peter K. Sacksen, a chemical and mechanical engineer. The Sacksen family emigrated from Germany during a time when the United States was recruiting engineers from Europe and they eventually settled in Lunenburg, MA. Friedlinde was a prodigious reader with wide intellectual interests. She shared her accomplishments with the community and worked for 15 years at Lunenburg High School for the "Project Green Thumb" and Horticulture program as the greenhouse manager. Her students referred to her as "Mutter Wunderbar" and one year was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade. She was also very active in her church, the United Parish of Lunenburg, singing in the choir, serving on various committees, most notably the flower committee, where she provided bouquets from her own garden to beautify the sanctuary week after week. She was also a member of the Lunenburg Garden Club. Friedlinde was happiest working in her organic garden, surrounded by her abundance of plants. She was known as the Lunenburg "Flower Lady". SACKSEN -- Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the United Parish Church, 39 Main Street, Lunenburg, MA 01462. Following interment at the North Cemetery on Holman Street, there will be a luncheon at the Parish House. There are no calling hours. The Lunenburg Garden Club has established a Scholarship in her honor for a student graduating from Lunenburg High School pursuing further study in the horticultural related sciences.
