Frederick W. Vanderbeck Jr.
WANTAGE - Frederick W. Vanderbeck Jr., 91, of Wantage, went to be home with his Lord on Oct. 10. Born in Paterson, he was raised in Haledon and then built a house in North Haledon where he lived for 24 years before moving to Wantage in 1971. Beloved husband of the late Gladys B. (Sackermann) Vanderbeck for 59 years, devoted father of Cynthia Lynch and her husband, Paul, and loving grandfather of Jennifer, of Ohio, and Christopher and his wife, Gloria, of North Carolina. He was a member of Fair Lawn Bible Church and was active with the youth and building programs. He also attended Sussex Baptist Church and was a member of Grace Bible Church in North Haledon. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and prior to his retirement, he was vice president of purchasing with ITI Electronics in Clifton. With his wife, they raised and showed Dalmatians for over 40 years and finished with six champions. He was an honorary life member of Newton Kennel Club and served on the board and as president for six years. He also was on the board of Sussex Hills Kennel Club and the Dalmatian Club of Greater New York. He served as a member of the North Haledon Republican Club and was a county committeeman. A founder of the High Point Republican Club, he served as president for many years. In 2002, he was inducted into the Sussex County Republican Party Honor Roll. He was a member of the North Haledon Planning Board and served on the Wantage Planning Board for 22 years and on the Sussex County Planning Board for over five years. He was a commissioner on the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority for 15 years. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. service at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Fred's memory to Grace Bible Church, 369 High Mountain Road, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
