Frederick A. Archibald
EXETER – Frederick A. Archibald, 78, slipped peacefully away on Friday, October 14, 2016, with his loving wife, sons and daughters-in-law at his side. Fred was born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada on August 23, 1938, a son of the late Arthur and Jean (Stark) Archibald and was the youngest of their six children. Fred was a graduate of the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, and was commissioned as a Flight-Lieutenant upon his graduation in 1962. He served as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, 409 Squadron where he flew CF-100 Canuck and CF-101B Voodoo fighter aircraft. When his RCAF commitment was up, Fred was hired by American Airlines and moved to Boston. During his 33 year career with American, Fred flew a diverse array of aircraft accumulating over 22,000 hours of flight time. It was at American that he met and fell in love with his wife of 49 years, Joni - a flight attendant at the airline. Following their retirement, Fred and Joni split the year between Exeter and Phoenix, Arizona, enjoying golf, travel and the company of their family and friends. In addition to his wife Joni (Hotaling) Archibald of Exeter, Fred is survived by his son, Andrew Archibald and wife Janan of Kensington, his son, Gavin and wife Michelle of Harwich Port, Mass., and five grandchildren, Skye, Grace, Cameron, Jack and Wyatt. He also leaves his sister Joan Reed and husband Les, his brother Robert Archibald and wife Sondra, and sister Marian Badgery and husband Alan – all of Ontario, Canada, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
