Mr. Fred A. Karlovich
Fred A. Karlovich, 86, formerly of East Brady, died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at St. Barnabas Nursing in Gibsonia. Born September 17, 1930, in Commodore, he was the son of Nicholas and Mary (Fayak) Karlovich. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Karlovich served during the Korean Conflict. He married Janet Wible on June 26, 1965. She survives. A graduate of Green Township High School, Mr. Karlovich lettered in basketball, football and track. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania on the GI Bill and earned his bachelor's degree. He later attended Penn State University for a master's degree. Mr. Karlovich began a career in secondary education teaching at Brookville High School for three years, and later at East Brady High School teaching typing, accounting, business math, business English, word processing and business law for 31 years. He was chairman of the yearbook committee, the attendance officer, the Morgan Scholarship coordinator and sold tickets at East Brady Bulldog football games with his wife, Janet. He was a faithful member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady where he was a lector and usher. He also served on the Parish Council, and volunteered for church dinners and other events. Throughout his life, Mr. Karlovich enjoyed traveling, journaling, writing and researching genealogy; yardwork, gardening and projects around the house; reading, especially the daily newspaper; and time spent with family and friends. He was always interested in learning about others and was always willing to lend an ear. In addition to his wife of Gibsonia, survivors include two sons, Eric Karlovich of State College, and Brian (Joelle) Karlovich of Canonsburg; two grandsons, Benjamin and Matthew Karlovich of Canonsburg; and two brothers, Edward (Marcia) Karlovich of Grand Rapids, Mich., and George (Kay Lon) Karlovich of Clymer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. in East Brady. A Parish Prayer Service will be held in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. William Kuba officiating. Committal, military honors and interment will follow in St. Eusebius Cemetery. The Karlovich family suggests contributions be made in Mr. Karlovich's name to St. Eusebius Church, 301 East 2nd Street, East Brady, PA 16028.
