Fred Zygfryd Bankowski, age 91, of Norristown, Pa., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Norriton Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Kamienna Gora, Poland, Fred was the son of the late Augustyn Bankowski and the late Janina Zarczynska Bankowski and the devoted husband ,since 1962,of Catherine H. Fox Bankowski. Together they had three daughters, Hellene A.K. Bankowski, Christine DiSanto (Jim), and Janina Walsh (George). He is also survived by his grand-daughters, Jordana Bankowski, Allyson Angelucci, Julianne Walsh, Amaya Bankowski, Meghan DiSanto and Sophia DiSanto, as well as his sister, Teresa Zebrowski (The late Gus). Starting at an early age,Mr. Bankowski served in Polish Air Force and The Royal Air Force as a pilot and navigator. He was only 19 when the war was over. He received the Polish Air Force Medal , The France and German Star, The Middle East Medal, The British Defense Medal and The War Medal. The military said that he was a reliable airman of very good character and superior trade proficiency. Frequently, Fred, and his wife, would travel to Poland to attend The Polish Air Force Veterans Association convention. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from The British Institute of Science and Technology in 1948, then worked several years in Canada and The United States before earning his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University in 1976. He later became a Professional Engineer working in several fields, even consulting on the development of the Our Lady of Czestochowa shrine in 1992. In 2007, he was recognized by the Association of Polish American Engineers for his work as a consultant. Fred was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed playing tennis every day. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Thursday, October 20, 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at Our Lady of Czestochowa, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown, Pa., 18901. The family will receive guests from noon until mass starts. Interment will follow in the Veteran’s Section of the cemetery. Arrangements are by The Bernard S.
