CRAMERTON - Frank Barrie Dunbar, 79, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2017. Barrie was born in Columbia, S.C. to the late Frank Benjamin and Lillian Hutto Dunbar. Barrie graduated with honors and was voted most intellectual by his senior class in 1955 at Brookland-Cayce High School, Cayce, SC. He received his BS degree in chemical engineering from the College of Engineering at the University of South Carolina in 1959 and was a proud supporter of the SC Fighting Gamecocks. He was an avid reader, bridge player, and enjoyed fishing at the beach. Barrie attained the rank of Eagle Scout, served in the US Army Reserves in Mt. Holly. He was a devout Christian and member of Parkwood Baptist Church. He retired with 39 years of service as a chemical engineer with Clariant Corp. Barrie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn Corley Dunbar, sons, Timothy Eric Dunbar of Charlotte, NC, Jon Russell Dunbar and wife Jackie of Belmont, NC, and grandchildren, Grayson and Anna Dunbar. The family will receive friends from 11 until 11:45 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will follow at noon in the Founders Chapel with the Rev.
