Frances Joy Merritt Grande Former resident of Lady's Island, Frances Joy Merritt Grande beloved wife of Graham Andrew Grande and mother of Lauren Grande Scarborough of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Karen Grande Vaillant of Arnold, Maryland and Donna Grande Ward of Annapolis, Maryland, died peacefully in her sleep on January 5, 2017, in Catonsville, Maryland. Frances, an only child, was born February 16, 1933 in Parris Island, South Carolina to Naval Officer L.C. Merritt and Lida Thomas Merritt. In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by her loving grandchildren Jessica Scarborough of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Nicholas Scarborough of Breckenridge, Colorado; and Tyler and Karlee Vaillant of Arnold, Maryland. She was an adventurous woman who loved life, family, friends and every animal she encountered. She traveled the world with her husband and through her business, Grande Excursions, Inc. Moving to Annapolis in 1969, she was a hygienist with Ruland Family Dentistry and volunteered in many community organizations. She graduated with a B.S. from West Liberty State College, West Virginia and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. In 1987 she moved to Europe with her husband for several years before retiring in Beaufort, South Carolina. There she was an active member of the UDC and DAR. In 2013, the Grande's returned to the area to be closer to family and reside in Charlestown Community in Catonsville, Maryland. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, January 14, 2017 at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel in the Charlestown Community711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland. Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Annapolis Wellness House ( www.annapoliswellnesshouse.org ).
