Apr. 5, 1917 - Jan. 7, 2017 Frances Cohen of Stockton, loving wife, mother, grand-mother, and great-grandmother, passed away on January 7, 2017 at the age of 99. She was born in San Francisco on April 5, 1917 to Dina and Elias Sternberg. On a visit to her aunt in Stockton in 1938, Frances met the love of her life, Louis Cohen. They married six months later on May 7, 1939, a loving marriage that lasted over 66 years until her beloved Lou passed away in 2006. Frances was predeceased by her brother Milton. She loved her family, friends, movies, theatre, golf, mah jongg, and her home in which she lived for the past 75 years. Frances will be dearly missed by her children, Beverly (Robert) Mayer of Los Angeles, Arlynne (Eliot) Phillipson of Toronto, and Douglas of Stockton; by her four grand-children, Steven (Michelle Eisner) Mayer of Los Angeles, Melissa (Gerald Sacks) Mayer of Los Angeles, Darren (Judith Shapero) Phillipson of Toronto, and Joshua (Ilana Gilbert) Phillipson of Modiin, Israel; by her eight great-grandchildren, Aaron and Zachary Mayer, and Marni, Jacob, Nadav, Tamar, Gavriel, and Dov Phillipson; as well as by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and her devoted caregivers, Thelma and Anna, and the Hospice of San Joaquin staff. The family is also grateful for the caring support of Rabbi Jason Gwasdoff and his wife Lindy Passer. At the time of her passing, Frances was the oldest member of Temple Israel. In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Temple Israel of Stockton, Hospice of San Joaquin, or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 2:30 p.m.,Temple Israel, 5105 N. El Dorado, Stockton.
