Floye L. Courtney
FLOYE L. COURTNEY Floye Courtney, who resided in Fresno, California, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was 94 years of age. Floye was born to Isaac and Essie McCord July 20, 1922 in Fall River, Kansas. In her teens she moved to Mira Loma, CA where she lived for more than 60 years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Vernon Courtney, whom she married just before he went into the Army. They quickly welcomed their daughter, Joan, into their lives. Floye enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her roses at their home on Troth Street. She was a member of the Mira Loma Free Methodist Church where she served the Lord and the community. She enjoyed working on sewing projects and was well known for her quilting abilities. She was an excellent cook and was the cafeteria manager at the Troth Street Elementary School in her early years. She made cooking for her family look effortless, and passed her techniques down to her child and grandkids. She enjoyed family vacations, fishing, and spending time with her grandkids. Floye, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Floye will be missed by everyone she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Courtney; her daughter, Joan Sisk; her great-granddaughter, Heather Sisk; and her siblings Helen Hollingsworth, Susie Shaffer, Chester McCord, Clarence McCord, and Clara Kloss. She is survived by her two grandsons Larry Sisk and wife Trisha, and Lonney Joe Sisk; great grandson Brandon Sisk and wife Deanna; great-granddaughters Sarah Gottfried and husband Blaze, and Megan Pezzi and husband Anthony; and three great-great-granddaughters. Services will be held Saturday, February 18 at 1 pm at Pierce Bros. Crestlawn Mortuary in Riverside.
