In memory of
Spillenger, Florence CLIFTON PARK Florence Spillenger passed away at 94 years old, on October 12, 2016, in the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home. Florence was born in Brooklyn and graduated from City College of New York. After raising two children, she re-entered the workforce for New York State in the late 60's, retiring in 1984 as a bureau chief for the Office of General Services commissioner, John Egan. As a member of Women in Government, she was instrumental in organizing the 1977 New York State Women's Meeting, which elected delegates to a National Women's Meeting. This meeting in Texas ultimately endorsed the Equal Rights Amendment. On the eve of an election with a woman candidate for president, she would be very proud. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Morton. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Gaul (Kenneth); and her son, Ralph Spillenger (Sharleen). Also survived by two grandchildren, Lilyanne Phillips and Shane Spillenger; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Eleanor. The family would like to give our sincere thanks to the staff of Schuyler Ridge and the Community Hospice for their very kind care of our mother. Services in the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany on Tuesday, October 25, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Schuyler Ridge Activities Fund, the Community Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of ones choice.
