In memory of
Florence "Kit" Frush
Florence "Kit" Frush Hillsborough, North Carolina Florence "Kit" Frush, 83, died February 4, 2017 in Hillsborough, NC. Kit was born in Lakewood, Ohio, daughter of Olga and David Loeffler, and sister of Jane and Dave. She attended Virginia Intermont College and married Donald I. Frush in 1954. They raised their four children (Lynn, Don, Scott and Tim) in Los Gatos, California. Many of her children's fondest memories are of family camping trips to Big Basin Redwoods in the Santa Cruz mountains, where Kit and Don would adeptly feed the entire family out of the contents of a well-packed cardboard box and ice chest, effortlessly prepared on a Weber grill and Coleman stove. Kit and Don were avid outdoors people and members of the Sierra Club, and after her husband's death Kit remained active in that community. She was, at various times, a gourmet caterer, a sailor, a long-distance runner, and eventually a loving partner to Everett Jones and grandmother to six grandchildren. In her later years, Kit lived in a log cabin in Hillsborough, out of which she hosted legendary family dinners, walked three miles every morning, worked as a companion for the elderly, visited the local library and her favorite restaurant (Saratoga Grill) often, and loved her family fiercely. She acted with great purpose, was a dedicated environmentalist, and remained open, always, to all views and walks of life. She considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children and their families, and reminded us of that often. As much as we grieve the loss of such an admirable and irreplaceable woman, we are so grateful for 83 years of her spunk and spirit. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Sierra Club in her honor. View the online memorial for Florence "Kit" Frush
