In memory of
Faye Sanders
Faye Vaughn Sanders Slayden, MS After successfully completing her earthly work, Faye Vaughn Sanders, 94, went to be with her Lord on October 13, 2016. She was the widow of C. A. Sanders, to whom she was married for 50 years. The only child of William Ivor and Blanche Campbell Vaughn, Faye grew up in the Ecru community. Faye traveled by train to Seattle, Washington, to marry C. A. on April 2, 1943, who was on leave from the U.S. Navy. After the war ended, and C.A. surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor, the couple moved to the Slayden Community in Marshall County, MS. There they were partnered with his cousin, Simpson Hurdle and his wife, Louse in the Hurdle & Sanders Clover Farm Store for the next 40 years. During this time, Faye also taught English at the Marshall County Agricultural High School which later became Slayden School. Faye was a loyal and "faithful daughter" of Blue Mountain College, where she graduated in 1942, and was honored as its Alumna of the year in 2004. She has also served BMC as Alumni President, a college trustee from 1996 to 2002, and served on the search committee for the seventh BMC president, Dr. Bettye Coward. Faye has been a member of Slayden Baptist Church since 1946 and has faithfully taught Sunday school there for a number of years. She was recognized there in a special church-wide program for her years of dedication and work. A passionate supporter of missions, Faye held many positions in the Woman's Missionary Union, both on local and state levels. She was honored with a "Servant of the Year" plaque from the Marshall Baptist Association receiving this one-time award in 1997. She, along with three others, was instrumental in starting the LIFT ministry (Ladies in Fellowship Transition) in the Slaydon area. This is an organization of white and black Christian women who meet monthly to worship and pray. This sweet lady "cut a wider path" than can be contained in a few words. She's been a mentor for so many. She leaves one daughter, Kitty King (Charles) of Slayden, three sons, Charlie Sanders (Diane) from Senatobia, Dick Sanders (Deborah) and Carl Sanders (Karen) both from Slayden; eleven grandchildren, Shelby Folk (Roger), Carrie Carpenter (Ryan), Jeffrey King (Rosie), Robin Cole (David), Adam Sanders (Tabatha), Kurt Sanders (Emily), John David Sanders (Sarah Jane), Justin Sanders (Dayna), Tyler Sanders (Erica), Tommy Schull (Jamie) and Sharme' Perucchini, 22 great-grandchildren. To God be the Glory. Services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at The Slayden Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Slayden Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church Friday from 5-8:30 p.m. A second visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Slayden Baptist Church for the Missions, 2534 Hwy 72, Lamar, MS 39642, or to Blue Mountain College, PO Box 160, Blue Mountain, MS 38610, or to the donor's choice.
