Fay Baker Fehd
Fay Baker Fehd February 21, 1931 - December 8, 2016 Resident of Walnut Creek Fay Fehd was born and in Belmont Massachusetts to professional parents, Dr. Lucile Williamson Zavarine (physician) and Igor Zavarine (engineer). Fay attended both public and private schools and completed 2 years at Skidmore College in Saratoga Spring, N.Y. Later she graduated from University of California at Berkeley. Fay worked in a number of teaching jobs, primarily in preschool and primary education. She was a director of a daycare center, which specialized in caring for children from single parent families. She taught people how to stop smoking thru SmokEnders. Fay also enjoyed taking shoppers around to the outlets in San Francisco with the company she co-founded, The Bargain Bus. Fay was always very active in all the communities she lived in. For 48 years she was an active member and past president of P.E.O., Chapter QC in Walnut Creek, and Chapter HT in Monterey. She served as a Deacon and in Stephen Ministries in both Lafayette and Monterey. Fay was an avid shell collector when the family lived in Hawaii. After retirement, she was an accomplished quilter in Monterey and Walnut Creek. She enjoyed many friends in her Bible Study Women's groups, her quilting groups, her three book clubs, while golfing and while traveling the United States listening to her husband John, play Dixieland Jazz in his various bands. She enjoyed traveling to far off and exotic locales and often chronicled the trips in her many scrapbooks. Family was very important to Fay and she was always ready to plan a family outing or get together. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, John Fehd. She leaves behind her two adored children, Cheryl McHugh (Tim), Robert Fehd (Julie), grandchildren, Lauren Fay Fehd, Robby Fehd, Maddy McHugh, great granddaughter, Quinn Fay Hallett and her sister-in-laws, Elaine Randisi and Dr. Carolyn Zavarine. She will be greatly missed for her enthusiasm, willingness to help others and her zest for life. Celebrations of Fay's life will be held at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Dr., Lafayette on Saturday, February 18 at 11am and at 1st Presbyterian Church Monterey on Saturday, March 18 at 11am.
