Evelyn C. Raven
Evelyn C. Raven November 28, 1929 - April 5, 2017 Salem - Evelyn passed away peacefully at the age of 87. She was loved and cared for by family, and friends during her final days at her home in Salem, Oregon. She was the youngest of nine children, born on November 28, 1929 to Guy and Nolie Cross. She lived most of her childhood in and around Three Rivers, Michigan. She had lots of wonderful stories of her older brothers and sisters from that time. Upon High School graduation, she moved to San Francisco where she worked for Kodak, and met her husband-to-be Wilbur H. Raven. They were very happily married for 56 years. They raised three children in the Modesto, California area. Evelyn worked from home as a photo-retoucher. It was a profession her father had introduced her to in his photography studio. In the early 1970's Will and Evelyn moved to Salem, Oregon. They both loved the scenic beauty and took up golf so they could enjoy it together. Golf became their biggest passion, and they were members of Illahee, Salem Golf, and Elkhorn Golf. Evelyn kept very busy golfing with her women's groups and won lots of trophies to be proud of. When Evelyn wasn't golfing, she spent her time painting, decorating or gardening. She was also a wonderful cook, and loved to throw dinner parties for all their friends. Evelyn gave back to her community by being a weekly volunteer for over 25 years for Salem Hospital. She loved being able to help as a 'Pink Lady'. She will be greatly missed for her warmth, smile and sense of humor. Her family is still enjoying her beautiful paintings. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Will. She is survived by her three children, Scott Raven, of Modesto, Ca., Cory Raven of Scappoose, Or., and Leanne Houngninou of Salem, Or. She was also loved by 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to Willamette Valley Hospice 1015 3rd St., NW Salem, Oregon 97304. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. A huge thank-you also goes to Paragon Memory Care for their amazing care and love of Evelyn.
