Mrs. Evelyn Becknell Blair, 90, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at White Oak Manor in York. A graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Joshua Blackwelder officiating. Born in Fort Mill, Mrs. Blair was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas Oscar Becknell and Blanche Wallace Becknell. She finished York High School in 1942 and attended Carolina Business School in Charlotte. She retired from the York County Branch of the Department of Agriculture with 33 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a former member of the Jack Benfield Sunday School Class and of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Samuel C. Blair, her brother, Oscar Ray Becknell, and sister, Ann B. Adkins. Surviving are her sons, Charles Thomas Blair of York and James Ray Blair, wife Beverly, of Sharon, two grandchildren, Christy Benfield, husband Shane, Jamie Flowe, husband Scott, two great-grandchildren, Cody and Jacob Benfield, and a sister, Gladys B. Blake of Rock Hill. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor in York for their loving care.
