Mrs. Nugent, age 100, of Pineville, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Naomi Heights Nursing Center. The one factor above all others that reflected the life and character of Eunice Nugent was her deep, abiding faith in her creator, the Lord God Almighty. Her family was among the founders of Holloway Baptist Church, her parents donating the land on which the church was built. After living in Pineville many years, she was a charter member and one of the founders of Unity Baptist Church on Hwy 28 East in Pineville. "Ms. Eunice" was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She sang with volunteer gospel groups that performed faithfully for shut ends in hospitals, nursing homes and area jails/prisons. She enjoyed working in sales at Wellan's Department Store for 30+ years where she forged lifelong friendships with her customers and fellow employees. She cherished those church and employment friendships her entire life, recalling them to the very end. But, it was her family that brought a twinkle to her eyes, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her siblings, her sons, and their extended families. Mrs. Nugent was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. "Sab" Nugent; son, Shirby Ray Nugent; parents, Daniel and Ephsie Gibbons Hickman; brothers, Jeff Hickman, Jesse Hickman, Alvin Hickman and Curtis Hickman; sisters, Zennie Gibson, Hazel Price and Lillian Brown. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gary W. Nugent, brother, Virgil Hickman and wife, Edna; daughter-in-law, Jane Nugent; granddaughters, Amanda Nugent Divine and husband, Eric, and Melissa Nugent Beall and husband, Tim; grandsons, Jason D. Nugent, and Reagan B. Nugent and wife, Debbie; great grandchildren, Caroline and Brooks Beall, Claire and Kirsten Nugent and Kaitlyn Divine; special family friends, Marilyn McGraw, Jo Grey, Leona Venson and Imogene Wilmore. The Nugent family would like to extend a "special thank you" to Dr. Muhammad Rawala and Dr. Asif Iqbal of Rapides Regional Medical Center and Dr. Edmund Kalifey of Oak Haven Nursing Center for their professional, compassionate and loving care of the family matriarch. We are grateful to the Oak Haven personnel for their years of splendid service, and to Guardian Hospice and Naomi Heights for their end-of-life attention and skills.
