In memory of
Eula C. BRECKENRIDGE
BRECKENRIDGE, Eula C. 92, left to be with her Lord Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Bayfront Medical Center after a short bout with pneumonia. She had lived independently until then, thanks to her strong Irish constitution. She was a Treasure Island resident for 56 years after moving here from Des Moines, IA. Eula was born in Eldora, IA, November 12, 1924, to Thomas and Katherine Lawler, an Irish Catholic farming family. She attended school in New Providence, starring on the high school basketball team and excelling at voice. She moved to Des Moines after graduation to study at the American Institute of Business, where she completed a secretarial program. One of her first assignments was with an Iowa entrepreneur named Chester H. Breckenridge, who developed Patricia Park subdivision, had a popcorn business, and successfully dabbled in the stock market. Eula married Chet in 1948 and they later had two daughters, Patti and Sharon. The family moved to Treasure Island, FL in 1961, where the girls attended St. John's School and Notre Dame Academy. Eula was a Girl Scout Leader and a carpool chauffeur during their early years. After Patti and Sharon left for college, Eula devoted many years to volunteer work at St. Anthony's Hospital, where she ran the gift shop. She later volunteered at All Children's Hospital gift shop until her "retirement" in her 80s. Eula was also a devoted Civitan leader and a regular at St. John's Church on St. Pete Beach as a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. When Chet died not long after their 43rd wedding anniversary, Eula moved to Paradise Towers on Treasure Island, where she lived for the past 18 years and made annual voyages around the world with her dear friend, Jean Juckette. She is predeceased by her older sister, Maxine Mann, and both parents. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia B. Randall (partner Sue Clark) and Sharon K. Francis (husband Paul); by her grandchildren, Daniel Francis, Adam Francis, and Christie Rooney (husband Brent); by her two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Brooks; and by her nieces, Marilyn Mann and Beverly Rebman. Her wonderful spirit will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am Thursday, January 19, at St. John's Church, 445 82nd Avenue, St. Pete Beach. A reception will follow in the church auditorium. Interment will be held at 1:45 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5750 49th St. North, St. Petersburg. Brett Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the St. Anthony's Hospital Foundation, 1200 7th Avenue North, St. Petersburg 33705 or the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Foundation, 500 7th Avenue South, St. Petersburg 33701.
