In memory of
Eugene B. Shaffer, 83, of Waukegan, IL, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, November 18, 1933. He joined the army in 1953 and planned to make it his career. However, due to a motorcycle accident in France, in which he nearly broke every bone in his body, he was honorably discharged in 1957. The following years were spent working as a maintenance mechanic for various companies. For a short time he was part owner in a tavern called "Dave and Gene's" located in North Chicago. He was a member of the American Legion for many years and he enjoyed watching auto racing, and going hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. In recent years he enjoyed watching Jeopardy with his friends at the local watering hole. He is survived by two brothers, Don and Jim, one sister, Lola, his children Linda, Peggy, Jean Ann and Joseph (Daria), and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karin; parents, Herman and Catherine; sisters, Betty and Judy; and brothers, Joseph and Robert.
