In memory of
Eugene G. McCarthy
July 16, 1919 - February 7, 2017 Born in Casper, WY; a Santa Monica resident and retired captain, Santa Monica P.D., passed into the arms of the Lord on February 7, 2017. Served in the CCC during the Great Depression and then moved to Southern California in 1939, employed by Douglas Aircraft as an airplane mechanic. Enlisted in the USN in 1942, served in the South Pacific and upon honorable discharge in 1946, married his "girl back home," Patricia A. Danielson, "Pat." On a dare in 1947, he accompanied a co-worker to take the entrance exam for S.M.P.D. Thirty-three years later, he retired as first captain. Along the journey, he and Pat enjoyed 63 years of marriage and raised five children: Patrick, Kenneth (deceased), Timothy (deceased), Maureen (Considine), and Karen (Hernandez). Also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pat passed away in 2009, and it is comforting to know they are together again. His loving-kindness and sense of humor will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, 11:00 a.m., Pierce Brothers Mortuary, 1218 Glendon Ave., Westwood. The family requests no flowers.
