In memory of
Eugene B. Hebert., age 92, of Naperville and longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, died February 12th, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born August 31, 1924, in Aurora, KS to Henry and Aldia Hebert. After serving in the Army Air Force in WWII, he returned to college to complete his journalism degree. At Creighton University in Nebraska, where he met and married his sweetheart, Elizabeth J. Mullen. They started a family and Gene ventured into the insurance industry. His career led the family to make many wonderful friends in Indiana and Wisconsin. His position at CNA insurance finally brought them to settle in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The couple raised 8 children together and were blessed with many grandchildren. They spent their years with their family enjoying card games and watching the Packers. In 1998, Betty passed away after many happy years of marriage. A few years later Gene was lucky enough to meet a wonderful woman named Jean Towers. They married on September 1, 2000. Gene and Jean created a fantastic life together traveling and spending time with friends and family. They moved into Monarch Landing in Naperville, where they have spent the past 9 years. Gene was a kind and loving soul to all that knew him. He was a pillar of strength, a sounding board for advice, and a shoulder to cry on. His faith and caring nature led him to be active in the ministry of his parish and was the glue that kept his family together. His smile, quick wit, and his poker skills will be greatly missed. Gene is survived by his wife, Jean Towers Hebert, a brother Melvin Hebert of Jacksonville, FL, 3 sons John (Kathy) Hebert, Jim (Deb Newman) Hebert, Joe (Becky) Hebert, 3 daughters Jeanne (Rich) Landorf, Judy (Jim) Tatlock, Jane (Chris Fink) Hebert, son-in-law Bill Harter, daughter-in-law Suzanne Tatlock Bell, and 9 grandchildren Kristin Cibulka, Erica (Kyle) Reed, Andy Hebert, Emily Rosner, Amy Hebert, Katie Cibulka, Jamie Harter, Mike Harter and Nick Hebert. In addition to his wife Betty, he was preceded in death by his daughter Joanne Harter and son Jerry Hebert. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, IL 60563. A visitation will begin at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Alzheimer's Association or Sister's of Charity, BVM 1100 Carmel Dr, Dubuque, IA 52003.
