Eugene Budesheim January 19, 1921 - April 12, 2017 York Eugene Budesheim, 96, passed away on Wednesday, April 12 at Country Meadows Leader's Heights. He was the loving husband of Lucille (Kohler) Budesheim, who he was married to for 68 years. Mr. Budesheim was born in York on January 19, 1921 to the late Fred and Agnes (Grimm) Budesheim. Eugene, better known as Budy, was best known for his music career and his passion for drumming. He began his celebrated career in 3rd grade at Hartley Elementary, where he auditioned for the school drum and bugle corp. A graduate of York High, he played in the school band, orchestra and the Sunlight Serenaders, in addition to performing with the Southern District Pennsylvania All-State Band his senior year. Before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1944, Eugene continued his passion for music as a pit drummer in Vaudeville shows at The Strand in York and performed with the Blue Moon Band. He was a member of the York Symphony through the early 70s and started his longest running stint of 62 years with the Spring Garden Band of York in 1940. While in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, Eugene studied at the U.S. Naval School of Music and was a member of the Navy Band. After, he returned to York where he worked at York Corporation for over 40 years and continued his beloved career in music. During his 80 years of drumming, he played for notable bands such as the Bob Clay Orchestra, The Walter Carl Orchestra, The Dave Baker Band, and the Al Shirey Orchestra. Budy played his last concert with the Spring Garden Stage Band at the age of 92. Eugene spread his passion for music by teaching over 200 drum students and instructing for the York and Hanover Drum Corps. He was also an active member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown, where he was a member of the Sunday School Orchestra. In addition to his wife, he leaves three children, Michael and his wife, Susan of Red Lion, Lynn Loucks and her husband, Barry of York, and Jane Duffy and her husband, Bill of York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chris Budesheim, Katey Eisenstein, Sarah Duffy; great-grandson, Brock Budesheim, along with many other close friends and family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Budesheim; brother, Charles; sisters, Helen Dodson and Virginia Hill. A private funeral service will be held by the family, with burial to follow at Mount Rose Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown, with Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene's name may be made to the Spring Garden Band of York, P.O. Box 7208, York, PA 17404. The Austin H.
