Eugene N. Aton
Eugene N. Aton, 75, of Mountain Top, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Celtic Hospice Care in Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre after a two-year battle with multiple myeloma. Gene was born in Mountain Top, the son of the late Eugene Aton and Christine Hudock. He was a graduate of St. Leo's High School, Class of 1959. He also attended business college. Gene worked for CertainTeed for 35 years. He was an extremely hard worker, always providing for his family. Gene enjoyed working with the land and created various flower and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed wildlife, hunting, playing cards and watching sports. Gene was well known for delivering his homemade applesauce and rhubarb sauce around the mountain. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Judith Smith; son, Eugene Aton and fiancée, Diane, New Jersey; son, John Aton and wife, Amy, Harrisburg; daughter, Rachel Sherksnas and husband, Dwayne, Dauphin Borough; daughter, Holly McIntyre and husband, Craig, Landisburg; granddaughters, Francesca Aton, New York; and Savanah Aton, Shickshinny; brother, Rodney Aton, Blytheburn; aunt, Anna Modrovsky, Mountain Top; uncle, Nicholas Hollock, Mountain Top; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. We would especially like to thank the numerous medical providers and caregivers at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Celtic Hospice Care, Angels Touch Home Care, along with the pharmacists at the Crestwood Pharmacy. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top. His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top. Interment will follow in Albert Cemetery, Mountain Top.
