In memory of
Ethan VanRaalte
Van Raalte, Ethan DELMAR Ethan Van Raalte, 23, born in Portland, Ore., passed away suddenly on April 14, 2017. A graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Ethan received bachelor's degrees in geology and environmental studies from Binghamton University in 2015 with Phi Beta Kappa. Ethan lived a beautiful life full of love, fun, discovery, joy, compassion, and adventure. He was eternally grateful for his parents, family, friends, teachers, co-workers, and anyone who showed him kindness, helped him out, worked alongside him, or taught him something. He wanted to leave the world a little better place than he found it. He achieved his goal by spending a year in AmeriCorps doing wildland firefighting and trail work on the Pacific Crest trail. He contributed to the sum of knowledge through undergraduate geological research. He loved working with children at a local tennis camp. He worked as a ski patroller at Jiminy Peak last winter and loved the hard work. The high point of Ethan's life was his year in AmeriCorps and he had his AmeriCorps friends in his heart. He loved cooking and playing tennis with his mother, Julia Zhu. He loved skiing, hiking, and camping with his father, John Van Raalte. He travelled to China many times and formed a close bond with his grandparents in Beijing, he was their "favorite boy." He enjoyed spending time with Gigi, Grampy, uncles, Tom and Pete, aunts Jan and Skye. He loved hanging out with his cousins Ben, Alex, Nick, and Julia. Ethan wished us all to love and support each other and enjoy every moment in life. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany on Monday, April 17, from 1-3 p.m.
