Ernest W. Stephan
Ernest W. Stephan, 87, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, in Bethesda Hospital, Boyton Beach, Fla., surrounded by love. Ernest was a lifelong resident of Mckeesport/White Oak area. The son of the late Florence and Hazel N. Stephan, he was born June 10, 1929, in Mckeesport. He is survived by his son, Kenneth and his wife, Oana, of Pittsburgh, and grandchildren, Jena and Jared Stephan, and a great-grandson, Dylan Snyder, of White Oak; his daughter, Kristen and her husband, Richard Meuter of Boyton Beach; his son, Craig and his fiancee, Barb Dittmer and her daughter, Rachel, of Bethel Park; and Ernest's step-grandsons, Jordan and Mitchell Oeler, and Beth, mother of Jordan and Mitchell, of West Mifflin. Ernest owned and operated Stephan News Agency in Duquesne and West Mifflin until he retired in 1987 and shortly afterward moved to Delray Beach, Fla. He was preceded by death by his companion of 22 years, Donna Trainer. Ernest was also preceded by death the loving mother of his children, Earlene R. Stephan, of White Oak. Ernest was a cherished member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, Fla. He was a former president of the Duquesne Rotary International Club and a 50-year member of the Mckeesport-Duquesne Mason Lodge. Ernest served in the Korean War in the Army. He was a man of faith and subtly instilled those values in those he loved. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who always put others first. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, 617 Main St., Irwin, PA 15642. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Wakeman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Delray Beach.
