In memory of
Emma Mae Heisey
Emma Mae Heisey, age 100, passed away on January 9, 2017 at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born April 4, 1916, she was the fifth child of Jacob and Annie Frey Schock of Manor Township, Lancaster, PA. For 71 years, she was married to Avery Heisey who preceded her in death in 2010. In early marriage, Emma partnered with her husband at Heisey's Jewelry Store in Elizabethtown, PA. She then assisted Avery with managing the Christian Light Bookstore in Chambersburg, PA. In 1956, Emma was by Avery's side as he pastored Life Line Mission on 'skid row' in San Francisco, CA. While making soup for many homeless men, Emma could not ignore the needs of the many impoverished children in the neighborhood. She delivered homemade soup to them as well. This act of kindness was influential in expanding Life Line's outreach to the residential area of the city. When they returned to PA, Avery's employment for Messiah College gave Emma the joyous opportunity to share her home with students and guests of the college. She was a gracious hostess. During their marriage, Emma was always at her husband's side with a heart filled with love and compassion for others. In retirement Emma was an active member of the Messiah Village Auxiliary and manager of the Messiah Village Gift Shop. Her diligence and ability were evident to all who came to browse or talk. Sharing in her husband's love for clocks, she volunteered alongside him at the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Museum in Columbia, PA. Emma is preceded in death by her brothers Richard, Jacob, Albert, John, Graybill and sisters Anna Mary Erhart, Esther Hess, and Martha Schock. Surviving family members include daughters Doris, wife of Rudy Crider, and Audrey, wife of Michael Fluent; three granddaughters Michele, wife of Michael McCormack, Gabrielle, wife of Daniel Zimmerman, and Brandi Fluent; and two great grandchildren Brandon and Krista McCormack. Memorial services will be held at Messiah Village Chapel, Thursday, January 19, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday in the Village Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Village Benevolence Fund, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
