Emily Quinn Charlotte - The family of Emily Steifle Quinn in great sadness announces to her friends that she passed away in Charlotte, NC on January 11, 2017 after a sudden illness. Her husband of forty-seven years, David H. Quinn, brother-in-law, Dan Quinn, their two sons, Duncan Quinn, Collin Quinn, and daughter-in-law, Katie Quinn, were by Emily's side. Family members will hold a graveside service in Charlotte for Emily on Saturday, January 14, and a service of remembrance and celebration will be held at a later date in Asheville. The family expresses sincere gratitude to friends for prayers and comfort during this time in the lives of the Quinn family. A native of Greensboro, NC, a graduate of Grimsley High School, and a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wake Forest University, Emily started her career teaching French at St. Genevieve's School in Asheville. After helping raise their sons, she worked at the Smith-McDowell House, the Thomas Wolf House, and served as an administrative assistant at Warren Wilson College for 20 years, retiring in 2011. David and Emily are active members of the Baha'i Faith. Emily served on the founding Board of WCQS Public Radio and served an additional term as President. A 40-year member of AAUW, she served as President and other positions. Emily served and supported many community volunteer activities since moving to Asheville in 1969. Emily is survived by her husband David in Asheville, sons Duncan and Collin, daughter-in-law Katie, and grandson Cameron Quinn in Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister Jerrine Taylor in Wilmington; mother-in-law Laura Quinn, sisters-in-law Laura (Skip) Ebert, Kathryn (Cookie) Billings, brother-in-laws Dan Quinn, James Quinn in Greensboro; and many loving nieces and nephews and extended family members. Emily will be interred at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. McEwen Funeral Service is coordinating the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St Jude's Hospital, the AAUW GEM Fund, Donate Life, or other charities of your choice.
