In memory of
NORTON, Emily Emily Norton, resident of Buford, Georgia, died Friday, October 7, 2016. She grew up in Tallulah Falls, where she attended Tallulah Falls School. She graduated there and continued her education at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in three years with a major in history and a minor in religion. Having also studied piano at Wesleyan, she later taught music at Tallulah Falls School. After teaching one year in Griffin, she spent the remainder of her teaching career at Decatur High School in Decatur, Georgia, where she taught American history and political science. She became chair of the Social Science Department, and, while teaching, earned a master's degree in Political Science at Emory University, with honors in her field. Emily retired early to give almost twenty years of home care to her bed-ridden mother, Myrtle (wife of Ernest Norton), here in Clayton. Before moving to Buford, she lived on Lake Lanier and spent many happy years there. There are no immediate survivors. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Sammie Maxwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Broadllawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA.
