Emily L. Lurwick
Emily L. Lurwick, 84, of Port Carbon, passed away Thursday at home. Born in Port Carbon, Dec. 15, 1931, she was a daughter of the late James and Hannah Williams Thomas. Emily was a 1949 graduate of Soldier's Memorial High School, Port Carbon. She first worked as an operator for Bell Telephone, Pottsville, and then as a material handler for H.L. Miller and Sons, Port Carbon. Emily was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Port Carbon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, William J. Lurwick, March 16, 1983; a daughter, Deborah Tohill; a brother, Jackie Thomas. Emily is survived by a son, William Lurwick and his wife, Karen, Schuylkill Haven; a daughter, Brenda Herndon and her husband, Bucky, Port Carbon; son-in-law, Gary Tohill, Pottstown; six grandchildren, Jake, Mike and Ellen Lurwick, Cody Herndon, Alison Michaels and Patrick Tohill; three great-grandchildren, Henry Lurwick, and Cailey and Adalyn Michaels; a sister, Georgine Heberling, Port Carbon; a brother, James Thomas, Chatham, N.J.; nieces and nephews. A religious service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon, with the Rev. Lorraine Heckman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
