Elton Ray Plaster, 76, passed away peacefully October 14, 2016, in his home, surrounded by family, including his loving wife of 44 years, Jennifer. Elton was a longtime resident of Independence, Mo., and he was a well-respected engineer in the Kansas City area for over 50 years. Elton was one of the founders of Custom Engineering, Inc. and worked as an independently-contracted engineer for the last 15 years. Elton was deeply devoted to his faith, family, and fly fishing, all of which brought him great joy and also incredible strength during his battle with cancer. Elton is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Hirst) Plaster, and their three children, Christy (Todd) Cook, Andrew (Lindsey) Plaster, and Sally (Matt) Fowler, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Susan Grauel and Jana Barclay, and their children and grandchildren. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church Blue Springs, 4500 Little Blue Parkway, Independence, Mo. Visitation will precede the memorial service from Noon to 1 p.m. Memorial contributions in Elton's honor can be made to Independence School District Foundation, Kansas City Hospice Foundation, or Trout Unlimited.
