In memory of
Ellen Elaine McClellan
McClellan, Ellen Elaine February 8, 2017, just a few days shy of her 92nd birthday, Ellen Elaine McClellan, (Mom, Grandma Pat) went home to be with the Lord. Born in Los Angeles in 1925, Mom grew up in Hollywood and attended Hollywood High School where she met Gerald McClellan (Jerry) who quickly became her High School sweetheart. They were married December 21, 1946. Last December they celebrated 70 years of marriage, a special legacy passed along to their children. They have been seen together, often hand-in-hand, by multiple generations of Newport Beach families, walking Balboa Island or just "hanging out" at BYC. Mom enjoyed the beach and being on the water, whether it was on a fishing boat with her dad or sailing with Dad and good friends. Long time residents of Corona del Mar, the family moved to Irvine Terrace in 1962, she enjoyed being involved at the Balboa Yacht Club and the Irvine Terrace Philharmonic Society, and had many friends at each through the years. She was an avid bridge player and participated almost every Friday for years in bridge club at the Yacht Club. Mom and Dad also enjoyed traveling with good friends, going to places like Australia and New Zealand, Montana and Hawaii. When it came to her children, Patrick, Bob and Susan, there was no end to her involvement. She was a Girl Scout leader with Sue's Troop for years often leading camp outs and day trips. Many of those girls have stayed in touch and still share warm memories of their time in Scouting. When it came to the boys she could be found endlessly providing transportation to and from practices and games until they could drive. She was constantly supporting them as a "fan" at water polo matches all over Southern California. As grandchildren got added to the mix Mom and Dad regularly took them on driving trips, sometimes day trips but often overnighters. Her grandchildren were very important to her. Thanks also to her very special, loving and devoted caregivers Ruby, Catherine, Marie and Brittney. We really appreciate each of you for what you did for Mom and Dad. Mom was predeceased by her precious granddaughter, Elisabeth; brother, Bob Barry and his wife Sandra. She is survived by her devoted husband. Thanks Dad, for the wonderful loving care you gave Mom, she knew she was cherished and knew that you were always close by. Surviving her as well are Patrick (Jennifer), Bob (Stephanie) and Sue (Darla); grandchildren, Matthew (Phoebe), Michael (Samantha), Tyler and Gunnar (Diana). Much of her joy these past few months came from regular visits by her six great grandchildren, Phoebe and George, Catherine and Violet, and Scarlett and Ellia Rose. This Thanksgiving we had the rare opportunity to have the whole McClellan clan together...4 generations! Mom was a trooper sitting on "the mound" while we all gathered for every picture we could think of taking.... knowing that it would be the last time this would happen. We were so thankful we had these "extra" three months with her in good spirits and enjoying her family at the home she always loved! She took comfort in knowing where she was going. We are at peace knowing she is with the Lord and her granddaughter and that we will see her again! Thanks for who you were and what you gave to each of us. You are loved and will be with us always! A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday February 22 at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.
