In memory of
Ellen Kay Jones Jarratt
Kay Jones Jarratt Ellen Kay "Kay Baby" Jones Jarratt passed away at home in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 10, 2017, surrounded by loved ones following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 19, 1943 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Richard and Effie Jones. Kay grew up in the small community of Smyrna, Louisiana. She graduated from Longstreet School where she was an avid basketball player. She then went on to Northwestern State University, majoring in Education. Kay went on to work in the oil and gas industry before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She earned a reputation as a powerful tennis player as a member of the ladies' doubles tennis team at East Ridge Country Club. Kay enjoyed fishing as well, even being awarded "Lady Angler" in Destin, Florida. She married William Edward Jarratt on December 25, 1973. In addition, Kay enjoyed every aspect of her service to King's Highway Christian Church, from being an Elder to the Christian Women's Fellowship and to the church choir, where she worked alongside some of her dearest friends. She was predeceased by her father Richard Carvel Jones, her mother Effie Hilburn Jones, her sister Peggy Harris, and her husband William Edward Jarratt. She is survived by Paul and Stephanie Jarratt of Shreveport, Louisiana, and their children, Nikki and Adam; John and Debra Jarratt of Inlet Beach, Florida, and their daughter, Darby; Linda and John Coleman of Orlando, Florida, and their children Davis and Caroline; and Ellen Jarratt of Atlanta, Georgia and her granddog, Winston. She is also survived by her sister Joan Jones Busher, her lifelong Sister in Love Dyanne Merrill, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and dear friends, too many to name. The family would like to thank her cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Davis, who provided not only excellent care but also love and support. The visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 14 at King's Highway Christian Church, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm officiated by Dr. David Brice. The Elders of King's Highway Christian Church and Group I of the Disciples Women's Ministry will be the honorary pallbearers. Memorials and donations in Kay's honor may be given to King's Highway Christian Church (806 Kings Highway, Shreveport, Louisiana), Shriner's Hospital (3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana), Wounded Warrior Project (P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675), or the charity of the donor's choice. 2 Corinthians 4:18 "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
