A remembrance day to honor the life of Dr. Ellen Buck, DVM, will be held starting at 2 p.m. April 22 at her home in Davidsonville. Dr. Buck succumbed Jan. 24 to complications of the colon cancer she had been battling for two years. April 22 would have been her 57th birthday. Dr. Buck graduated from veterinary school at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg in 1984. She worked for the past 10 years as one of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's national equine import specialists, striving to keep America free of foreign horse diseases. Dr. Buck also worked weekends as a veterinarian at the Animal Medical Clinic of Watkins Park. "Dr. Hairball," as she was known to friends, loved horses and cats. Her equine avocation took Dr. Buck around the world, including working trips to the Olympic Games in Brazil 2016 and Australia 2000. She is survived by her mother Nancy, brother Richard, niece Blaze, six cats, two horses and a donkey. In her memory, friends and relatives are invited to Dr. Buck's farm on April 22 to partake of lasagna and hard apple cider, two of Dr. Buck's favorites.
