Elizabeth (Betty) LaJoie went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 7, 2016. Betty was born on March 24, 1929 in Bournemouth, England. She was on the nursing staff of War Memorial Hospital from where she retired after 38 years of service. Betty was awarded the Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award by her peers in 1987. She was an avid reader and especially loved mysteries. She was also a member of St. Mary's Church and the American Legion. For the past three years, Betty lived in La Grange, lovingly cared for by her daughter Ann Atkin. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Kathleen Yates. She is survived by Willard (Frenchie) LaJoie; her children, Laura Booth of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Larry (Sharilyn) LaJoie of Bonney Lake, Wash.; Ann Marie (Bob) Atkin of La Grange; Lindsay (Rob) Murphy of Chicago, Ill.; Jerry (Renee) LaJoie of Gaylord, Mich.; Jim Elliott of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; siblings, Robert and David Yates and Kay Munro; 19 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lars) Petzke; Chelsea (Justin) Stirling; Tony LaJoie; Kelly (Darin) Bills; Brent Maynard; Chad Richmond; Emily Richmond; Andrea Atkin; Bobby Atkin; Nathan Atkin; Kyle Murphy; Sean Murphy; Brandon Mikolowski; Kaylor Mikilowoski; Dominic LaJoie; Chayse LaJoie; Joshua Elliott; Jacob Elliott; and Jason Elliott; and six great-grandchildren. As per Betty's wishes, cremation was chosen. A memorial mass will be held at 11a.m. on October 21, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 320 E. Portage Ave.; Sault Ste. Marie, Mich..
