Elizabeth W. Kendall
Elizabeth W. Kendall of Newton, former secretary to the head of the English Department in Newton Public Schools, passed away on October 8 in Wayland. She was 96 years old. Best known as Betty, she was born and grew up in Boston. She graduated from Girls Latin High School and the Katherine Gibbs School, then worked in secretarial positions for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She moved to Newton Corner in 1942, and to Auburndale in 1962. In 1963, she became secretary to the Youth Department director at the Newton YMCA, now known as the West Suburban YMCA. After nine years at the YMCA, she began 20 years of service to Newton Public Schools, working in the Math and English Departments, and at various Newton schools. Mrs. Kendall was the wife of Elmer E. Kendall, Jr., who passed away in 2012. She leaves her daughter Debbie Kendall and son-in-law Dave Osterman, of Glastonbury, Conn.; grand-daughter Chelsea Osterman, of Philadelphia; grand-daughter Danielle Osterman, of Boston; and son Steve and daughter-in-law Betsy, of Harvard, Mass.
