Elizabeth D. "Betsy" Grinslade
OKEECHBEE - Elizabeth "Betsy" D. Grinslade, daughter of Norman Mullinix and Wilma Jean Pruitt Mullinix. She came into this world on Feb. 23, 1958, in Lebanon, Mo. and departed this life on Apr. 12, 2017. On Feb. 16, 1979, she married her best friend Calvin Demont Grinslade. They enjoyed 38 faithful years of marriage. Betsy led a full life. She spent 18 years proudly serving her country in the United States Airforce, and completed a tour to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Her last station was at Cannon Airforce Base, Clovis, N.M., where she enjoyed being the Resource Protection Officer. She retired from the Airforce in 1994. In 1999, just a year after moving to Okeechobee, Betsy took on the role of the Okeechobee County Veteran Service Officer. She truly loved her job helping fellow veterans and those in active duty. Although she wore many hats, the ones she enjoyed most was being a wife, mother and especially a grandmother. Survived by: husband, Calvin Demont Grinslade; daughters, Jessica Rae Grinslade and Rachel Lynn Grinslade Belleville; grandchildren, Lillian Jean Grinslade, Delilah Ann Belleville, and Cullen Finn Tarner; and brother, Parrish Norman Mullinix. The service will be at New Testament Baptist Church, 535 NE 28th Ave., Okeechobee, FL 34972. Gathering on Tuesday, Apr. 18, 2017, at 10 a.m.; funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will take place on Wednesday, Apr. 19, 2017, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Opening remarks by Pastor Aaron Dowler, service led by Pastor Tom Pasquarella.
