Elizabeth Caroline Ernst, age 89 of Sterling Heights, died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born April 16, 1927 in Jettenbach, Germany, daughter of the late Karl and the late Caroline (nee: Wendell) Wirth.
A former employee of the automotive giant General Motors, Elizabeth devoted herself to her work and extended the utmost in dedicated service until accepting her well-deserved retirement. But depending on who you talk to, Elizabeth's best and most devout work was that of an entertainer. Being a noted social butterfly, she loved hosting events that brought people together which helped to create some wonderful memories in the process. Whether it was the many holiday bashes for family and friends she celebrated,…the more tightly knit events that afforded family reunions & get-togethers,…the acclaimed weekend parties that were talked about for days,…or the ever-popular card playing fests she held with her girlfriends, Elizabeth's soirees were always a wonderful celebration of family, friendship, and a whole lot of fun.
Elizabeth will also be remembered for her love of travel, something she enjoyed doing on a global scope. She traveled the world and managed to create quite the portfolio of places visited. The scenic splendor she took in was something Elizabeth treasured always. Another pastime that called her name was the game of golf. A longtime member of the Birmingham Country Club, Elizabeth never ceased to have the time of her life when it came to swingin' the irons and taming the links on a sunny day with friends. And then there was bowling. An old standard and a great American pastime, joining in with her bowling mates for a rousing day on the lanes spelled all kinds of fun,…and perhaps a little friendly competition thrown in, too.
Yet for as much as her family and friends meant the world to her, Elizabeth shared her love with another as well,…her four-legged, furry friend & Pomeranian, Bo. There's nothing like the unconditional love of a pet to stir our feelings of joy, and Bo provided Elizabeth countless hours of pleasure, cuddling, and the warm-fuzzies.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Elizabeth leaves a legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared by all who were blessed to know her and be touched by her. Caring and devout in all she did, and to all with whom she made a difference, Elizabeth will forever be remembered by the way she lived, laughed, and loved. She will truly be missed.
Beloved wife of the late Jack. Dear mother of Laura (Michael) McCloskey and Lorne Ernst. Loving grandmother of Shawn (Stephanie) McCloskey, Jack McCloskey, Kimberly Ernst, Laurel Ernst, Colette Ernst, and Melanie Ernst.
