Elizabeth Louise (Betty) Sipe Dudley, 92, of Roanoke, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. She was born on June 20, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio. For the last 18 years, Betty had lived at Friendship Retirement Community, Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her father, C.A. Sipe; her mother, Isabel W. Sipe; her husband of 68 years, Frank M. Dudley; a daughter, Eleanor Louise Dudley; and sisters-in-law, Lottie L. Dudley and Nelle Sipe. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda D. Williams and Forrest B. Williams, of Oldsmar, Fla.; granddaughters, Louise W. Fode and husband, Ethan, of Anchorage, Alaska and Abigail W. Sauerwein and husband, Joseph, of Toledo, Ohio; several great grandchildren; brother, Charles A. Sipe, of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a nephew, James A. Sipe and wife, Phyllis, of Kingsport, Tenn. Betty received her education at Bedford High School, Bedford, PA; the New York Institute of Dietetics; the University of Alabama and Ohio State University. She directed food services for summer camp programs at Camp Arrowhead for Boys and at Chimney Rock Camp for Girls for 10 years, both in North Carolina. Currently a member of Melrose Baptist Church, Roanoke, Betty was of the Baptist faith. In her love for God, she served with her late husband, Frank, as a volunteer missionary in Venezuela, the Philippines and Guyana, SA, as well as wherever possible at Bonsack Baptist Church. Her main service was Literacy Missions as a tutor and tutor trainer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, 2930 Flowers Road South, Suite 133, Atlanta, GA 30341 or Carilion Hospice, P. O. Box 13367, Roanoke, VA 24033. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Friendship Retirement Community Chapel, 397 Hershberger Road, Roanoke, VA 24012. The Rev. Scot Finley will officiate.
