Elizabeth Nolan Barnicle, age 93, of Hartford, wife of the late John P. Barnicle, died peacefully at home on April 11, 2017. Born in Hartford she was the daughter of the late James (County Clare) and Katherine (Large) Nolan (County Laois). She was predeceased by her sister Eileen (Nolan) Neary and her husband Edmund and brother James J. Nolan and his wife Patricia. Also her brothers and sisters-in-law Martin and Shirley Barnicle and Nora B Jones and Robert Clough and two nephews, Paul Barnicle and Brian Jones. She is survived by daughter Margaret Barnicle (Fred Percival) of Eustis, FL, son Stephen (Gina Gigante) of Cromwell, son James (Debra) of Newington, and their children Ryan, Chelsea and Abby Barnicle, son John (Lois Pallmeyer) of Eagan, MN, and their children Madeline, Simon and Miriam Barnicle, and daughter Katherine Barnicle (Trey Duffy) of San Luis Obispo, CA. She leaves her nieces Betsy (Neary) Young (Robert) and Barbara (Neary) Sturtevant (John) of MA, Jennifer (Nolan) Asadow (Howard) of West Hartford and her grandnephews Brian Young, Nolan and James Asadow, her sister-in-law Helen Clough, her brother-in-law Ray Jones and many loving nieces and nephews of her beloved husband: Dennis and Sheri Barnicle, Peter and Lauren Barnicle, Patricia and David White, Carolyn and Richard Kuzoian, Susan and Peter Begin, David and Tracey Barnicle, Nancy Barnicle of NYC and Joan Barnicle of CA. Also, Carol (Jones) and Philip Pasternak, Keith Jones, Karen Lair, Patrick Jones and Lauren (Jones) McDunnah. Betty was a graduate of Bulkeley HS, Class of 1941, and served in the United States Navy at Naval Air Station, Alameda, CA, during World War II. She attended the US Naval Training School at Hunter College, NY, and Yeoman School at the Iowa Teachers College, Cedar Falls, IA. After the War, Betty worked in the Patent Dept. of the Underwood Research Laboratories until she and Jack started their family. A lifelong parishioner of St Augustine Parish, she was a member of the Rosary Society and Altar Guild, the Intensive Education Academy Auxiliary, the Greater Hartford Architectural Conservancy, the Hartford Handicapped Helpers and the Bushnell Park Carousel Society. She was active in the Barry Square and Southwest Senior Centers. Betty lived at Atria Greenridge Place in Rocky Hill, for over three years with many friends, old and new. She greatly appreciated the attentions of kind and thoughtful staff members there. She is especially remembered by her very good friends, Eleanor Rinaldo, Madeline Martino, Anne Scata and Anita Botticello. The family thanks Ruth Amoako (Right at Home), Cathy Kulas and Elizabeth Quispe (VITAS Hospice) and Chrismel Graham (Comfort Keepers of FL), among many others, for their loving care of Betty. Friends may call from 8:30-9:30 am Thursday April 20, 2017 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave. Hartford. Burial will be private in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery.
