In memory of
Elgene Davis Sebree, Kentucky Elgene Davis peacefully passed away Saturday October 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at home surrounded by family. She spent 69 devoted, loving years married to her best friend Wilbur, and together they made a joyful life filled with friends and family. Elgene was born in Webster County on her family's farm, and she and Webb spent their later years gazing across those same fields of her childhood and welcoming people into their home. The number of rooms or beds didn't limit the guests Elgene invited in; she cared for anyone and everyone with home-cooked meals, hugs and laughter. Her home was her favorite place to be: she worked hard to make it a refuge for Webb and their family. She also enjoyed her time spent outside the home, both working at Sears in Evansville and volunteering at the hospital in Henderson. She crafted with fabric and needles, and shared that passion with her crafting group-the Knitwits. She was a member of the Sebree United Methodist Church. One of the surest ways to hear Elgene's beautiful, infectious laught was to ask her about one of their many family vacations. What started as regular vacations with their kids later became regular trips to Pensacola Beach, Barkley Lake, and other places with kids and spouses, grandkids and spouses and great-grandkids! Elgene was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Leona (McClarney) Sandefur, her husband Wilbur, son-in-law Lee Hayes and grandson-in-law Danny Marsh. She leaved behind 3 children: Beni Bridges and husband Larry of Newburgh, Indiana, Archie A Davis and wife Jeannie of Sebree, Renita Fightmaster and husband Robert of Sadieville, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren: Brandon Hayes and wife Christy, Ryan Hayes and wife Michelle, Lori Jaquess and husband Derek, Eric Bridges and wife Sara, Andrea Henry and husband Pat, Candy Marsh, Gordon Fightmaster, Amy Cook and husband Tom, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She made people feel loved and when I came time for others to care for her, the family was grateful for women like Kathy, Rho, Diana, Emily and Charlotte who devoted their time and energy to making sure Elgene was comfortable. Elgene will be missed dearly, but her grace and beauty along with her legacy of complete devotion to caring for others, creating a welcoming home for guests and loving unconditionally will carry on in those who were privileged to know her. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday October 19, 2016 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Sebree. Pastor James Schuck Father Al Grimmer and Ryan Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8PM and Wednesday 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Alzheimer's Association or Sebree Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.tomblinsonfuneralhome.com
