In memory of
Ellie Simon, lifelong resident of Owatonna, died Jan. 8, 2017, at Park Place Senior Living. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Friday, Jan. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour before the funeral liturgy on Saturday. Eleanor was born on March 9, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Hammer) Meixner in Somerset Township, rural Steele County, Minn. She was the middle child of five and the last surviving sibling. She attended district 69 in Saco Twp. through eighth grade, then waited a year so that Ellie and her younger sister could attend high school together. Eleanor graduated from Owatonna High School in 1942. On June 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Simon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. On June 7, 1944, their son Donald was born. Eleanor work on the farm until 1957. She then went to work at the Village Cafe as a waitress. Later she worked at the Kahler Inn Town and Donuts and Deli. She retired at the age of 83 from Costa's. She thoroughly enjoyed working, and many times mentioned she would have liked to work longer. Eleanor was a proud member of the Owatonna Eagles and WFLA Lodge 127. She had a passion for dancing and would attend dances whenever she could. When she could no longer could dance the night away, she enjoyed listening to music and tapping her feet to the beat. Ellie is survived by her son, Donald (Kay) Simon of Hayfield; three granddaughters, Nicole (Tim) Reckmeyer of Prior Lake, Natalie (Todd) Obermiller of Medina, and Brianne (Josh) Bosanko also of Prior Lake; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gerry Meixner; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her many relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Hrdlichka, Margaret Gentner, and Romayne Simon; and brother, Donald.
