In memory of
Eleanor Holley Mathison
Eleanor Holley Mathison passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly at home on October 10, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilmon and Netta Holley of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Col. (Ret.) Richard Mathison, her children, Richard Mathison Jr (Rhonda), Holley Guarachi (Fernando), and Mark Mathison, and two grandchildren, Stefan and Alexa Guarachi. Eleanor has a brother, Dr. H.D. Holley (Jane) of Gadsden, Alabama, and a sister, Netta Holley of Fort Walton Beach. She is also survived by her three nephews. Eleanor grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After graduation, she moved to Fort Walton and was a teacher at Fort Walton Elementary. Eleanor was an active member of St. Simon's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild. She was a member of Panhellenic and enjoyed playing bridge. She also loved getting together with some of her lifelong friends on the coast and cheering for the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE. Eleanor was loved by so many people and will truly be missed. She was a very caring, loving, giving person who always put others' needs before her own. She was indeed a southern matriarch. Time spent with her family was very special to her. They always got together for the holidays and enjoyed eating and playing games. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Simon' s Episcopal Church with Reverend David Knight officiating. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to service. A private family interment of her ashes will be in the church's Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the St. Simon's Episcopal Church Altar Guild at 28 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, Ft Walton Beach, Fl 32548. Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.
