Eleanor Criswell
Eleanor Anita (Randol) Criswell Jan 10, 1927 - Jan 2, 2017 Eleanor passed away peacefully in her home on Jan 2, 2017, 8 days prior to her 90th birthday. She was born on Jan 10, 1927, in Modesto, CA. The youngest of 6 children born to Bill & Mabel Randol, her siblings nicknamed her "Elsie" which stayed with her all of her life. She started school at Mitchell School in Atwater, where her father had been appointed the first Chief of Police.  The family moved to Merced where she attended Merced High School and met the love of her life, Olin Garvin Criswell (Hawk). They married in 1945, and by 1950 their 2 sons were born. In 1967, they moved to the Lake Tahoe/Reno/Carson City area where she lived for almost 30 years. Following her husband's passing in 1991, she returned to Merced and her beloved San Joaquin Valley. Throughout her adult life, Eleanor was an unshakeable Christian. For 40 years, her vocation was bookkeeping and she spent about half of that time at the Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross in Reno, NV. Her lifelong avocations were learning, gardening and volunteering. She was an eager student and developed a love of reading that focused on health, self-improvement, and history. She attended college level classes in her 50's and 60's and even became a Certified Master Gardener in the 1980's. Since returning to the valley in 1996, she has done volunteer work at the American Red Cross, Applegate Zoo, and Castle Air Force Museum. Since 2001, and until her death, she was a proud and conscientious member of the Merced Police Department Volunteers. Eleanor's death closes a chapter of Valley history, dating back over 100 years. She is survived by her 2 sons, Gary James Criswell of AZ, and Kenneth Garvin (Casey) Criswell of TX, 5 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. She is now resting in peace in the company of our Lord and in the warmth of the love of her family. www.cvobituaries.com
