Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Bethel Cemetery for Edwina Dean McMahan Kangelos, 86, Hokes Bluff, who died Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. Ryan Smith will officiate. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge. Mrs. Kangelos was a 1947 graduate of Hokes Bluff High School and attended Jacksonville Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Jerry Kangelos. They were married in 1948 and were married for 58 years. Dean was an avid needle worker, and many family and friends have received pieces of her work. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Kangelos retired as owner/operator of Hokes Bluff Hardware when she and husband Jerry decided to move to Union City, Tennessee, to be with their son and his family. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Troy, Tennessee. She had a true gift for helping others, especially children. She and Jerry spent many years working for both their grandchildren's school and sports teams. Mrs. Kangelos had spent the time since her husband's death living with her son and family until March, when she moved to Meadowwood Assisted Living after a stroke. She is preceded in death by her father, Slaught McMahan; mother, Nellie Marbut McMahan; brother, Aldredge McMahan; and husband, Jerry Kangelos. She is survived by her son, John (Pamela Johnson) Kangelos, Hokes Bluff; grandchildren, Aury Slaught (Sarah Gallimore) Kangelos, Erin Kangelos (Daniel Keith) Mayben; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Grace Mayben. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Aury Kangelos and Keith Mayben; and cousins, Daryl Marbut, Royce McMahan, Steve Shields and Wayne McMahan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Success Center, 821 E. Broad St., Gadsden, for those needing help with Christmas gifts; or Troy First Baptist Church, 519 E.
