Edward Napoleon Lanier
LANIER EDWARD NAPOLEON Our Family member of the Detroit News/Free Press Stephanie Lanier is mourning the loss of her father. Edward Napoleon Lanier's story began on March 20, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama. Edward was the eldest of six children: Franklin, Richard, Catherine, Thomas, and Celestine. All of the children were born to the union of the late Carrie McWhorter Lanier and Franklin "Richard" Lanier. Edward's parents relocated to Detroit, Michigan where he was enrolled in the Detroit Public School system, after graduating high school, Edward went to the United States Army Airborne Division until 1963 receiving an honorable discharge. Edward married the late Joanna Lanier. Edward was a hardworking man and dedicated employee; he worked 30 years as a Traffic Sign Mechanic for the City of Detroit. He was a self-taught handy man and business man. Edward was a humanitarian, always giving to those in need. Edward loved his family and friends. His out pour of love will be missed. Edward was a father to many and a friend to all. Edward departed on January 28, 2017 at 7:05 pm with his family by his side. Edward leaves behind his precious memories to be cherished by his loving children: Barbara Lanier, Stephanie Lanier, Thomas Lanier, Regina Dorris, Vanita Miller and Sonya Pritchett, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
