IVERSON Edward Thomas (Tom) Iverson, age 77, formerly of Topeka, KS, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Overland Park, KS. Born on October 8, 1939 in Atchison, KS to Edward Lowe Iverson and Doris (Backman) Iverson, Tom was a retired salesman and small business owner who had recently moved to Leawood, KS. Tom's childhood was spent in Topeka after the family moved when he was four years old. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1958 where he played basketball and football. While at the University of Kansas, Tom was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy in 1962, and with an MBA in 1965. Tom married Judith Leigh Harmon on August 5, 1967. The newlyweds moved to Houston, TX for Tom's career with the Standard & Poor's Corporation. They returned to Overland Park two years later and began a family. They spent 26 wonderful years together prior to her passing in 1993. His life will forever be cherished and honored by his children Scott Iverson of Sarasota, FL and Lori Smith of Great Falls, VA; son-in-law Scott Smith of Great Falls, VA; daughter-in-law Darcy Iverson of Sarasota, FL; brother Willard Iverson of Topeka, KS; and his two grandsons. Tom was a devoted and loving husband and father, protector, provider and care giver. His greatest joy was his family, and celebrating their successes and happiness. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, and helping coach his children's sports teams. He was an active member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. After being re-baptized in his early 60s, Tom enjoyed leading bible study and teaching Sunday School at Topeka Baptist Church. A memorial service celebrating Tom's life will be held at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO, on Saturday, February 18th at 3pm, with graveside services being held thereafter.
