Edward Benko Edward Benko was born on March 11, 1929, in Lakewood, Ohio. He was the fourth of five children born to Jan and Maria Benko, Slovakian immigrants. He attended Liverpool High School in Valley City, Ohio, where he was an All County basketball star. He attended Fenn College in Ohio. During that time he worked for NACA (today known as NASA). He also served in the Navy from 1954-1979. He retired as a Commander and Navy pilot. Ed was employed at Boeing in Everett, WA from 1962-1993. Ed married Marlene Amen-hauser in 1954. They were married for 25 years. They lived in 6 different states while in the Navy, before settling in Kirkland, WA where they raised their two children, daughter Lisa (Chris Burns), Eva Maria and Olivia, Bellevue, WA and son David (Kirsten) Nicholas, Simon, and Donovan, Vancouver, WA. His grandchildren enjoyed spending time with him and sharing his love for music, gardening, art, and collecting. In 1996 Ed married Bette Mack from Valley City, OH. They enjoyed gardening and traveling. Bette has two children. Daughter Gretchen (Jim Checkelsky) Drew, Brett, and Ben and son Greg (Sydney), Lauren and Jennifer. He is survived by sister Ruth & many nieces & nephews. Ed developed Alzheimer's later in life and went home to Jesus on October 11, 2016. Ed was dearly loved and will be tremendously missed by his family and friends. His burial will be at Tahoma National Cemetery on October 21st at 11:30am. Following will be a memorial reception at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Bellevue, WA at 2:30pm.
